Pliant Medical’s Role in Rapid Infusion Development

From concept to commercialization, Pliant Medical’s engineering and manufacturing expertise helped advance critical-care infusion technology.

Case Study

Challenge

A medical device developer specializing in critical-care technologies sought advanced manufacturing and joining expertise to support the next generation of a rapid infusion system. The device required precision-manufactured, single-use components integrated into a larger reusable assembly, with strict performance, cleanliness, and regulatory requirements.

Approach

Pliant Medical was engaged early in the development process to support both design optimization and manufacturability. Our engineering team identified plastic laser welding as a key enabling technology, delivering clean, reliable joints for critical components within the disposable manifold and cartridge assemblies. This early technical alignment positioned Pliant as both the injection molder and contract manufacturer for the program.

The project spans two targeted medical markets—medical devices and medical disposables—and included multiple early-build phases to supply components for testing, validation, and regulatory preparation. Collaboration extended across the supply chain, including coordination with a large contract manufacturing partner to support downstream production planning and scalability.

Outcome

The device is currently progressing through the FDA 510(k) clearance process, with commercialization timing dependent on regulatory approval. Throughout development, Pliant Medical supported accelerated timelines by providing design-for-manufacturing expertise, early production tooling, and scalable manufacturing solutions.

This program demonstrates the value of early engineering engagement, advanced joining capabilities, and integrated contract manufacturing—positioning the device for an efficient transition from development to full-scale production while maintaining compliance and performance requirements.
